[Fun] Make your own (vintage style) Build a Bear Hangers

Have you ever wanted your own BuildaBear hangers for your BuildaBear’s clothes, but you don’t have enough and don’t want to spent the money? Or maybe you just enjoy the original style of hangers BuildaBear they used before moving to their more modern appearance. I found myself in both categories, so I set out trying to find a better a option. I thought to myself “Why don’t I just make my own hangers? Surely someone has a template of the BuildaBear hangers available!”

But as far as I can tell, I was wrong. I’ve looked and I haven’t been able to find a guide or a template on the matter at all. Because of this, I decided to take matters into my own hands and teach you all how to make your own vintage BuildaBear hanger if you so desire!

All you need is:

  • Cardboard
  • A way to print (Your phone, PC, even a place like a local Library that allows you to print!)
  • A boxcutter
  • Adhesive (glue, double sided tape, etc.)
  • The PNG files and/or the PDF file avail for download here

Optional Tools:

  • X-acto knife
  • Glossy/texture print paper
  • Any sort of decoration
  1. The files you will need to print are located here under download options. The download options you are looking for are the PDF and the two PNG files. The PDF file is a more high quality scan of the vintage BAB hanger design, containing both a front and back image, but it also contains a scuffed hook. The PNG file of page one has been edited to have that fixed if that bothers you, but the image is a slightly lower in quality. Print whichever set you prefer or feel free to mix and match.

If you are wanting to have the image on the hanger and not just the shape, you can try using a glossy/satin printing paper for a more realistic look. Id recommend, however, still starting out with a regular printing paper version when cutting out the shape. Of course you don’t have to use any special printing paper at all if you don’t want to!

Now as you may have already guessed, what you are going to do is use the pictures of the hanger as a template. To do this, it is very important you make sure the image(s) you use prints to size. Avoid using print settings like ‘fill page’ and so on. If you have done this correctly, the hanger should be around 9 inch long x 5.5 inch tall from the middle of the hanger to the tallest point of hook. (If yours varies a little bit don’t worry)

  1. Once you have those printed, its time to get cutting! Use a sharp box cutter to cut out the shape of the hanger. You can try using a X-acto knife for the smaller areas on the hanger, but that’s optional.

Once you have it cut you can stop there if you’d like or you can glue your image(s) of the hanger on to make it look more like a real BuildaBear product Any sort of adhesive should work, but for a more ‘professional’ look you want to avoid any sort of air bubbles that may come from uneven glue distribution. Personally, Id recommend something like a glue stick, double sided tape, or a glue tape as they are affordable options but still offer a good enough finish. But if you want to get a more streamlined look, you can try things like a spray adhesive.

You can also use glossy Mod-Podge on as glue or even on the completed hanger to help it get that

  1. Now, of course on PikaKirakuzu.com we are all about self expression! If you want to decorate your hanger with stickers, washi-tape, markers and more you should go right ahead! If you are doing this craft with little ones, you can try printing the hanger in black and white and letting them color it!

♥ I hope you guys are able to use this and the scan I did of my vintage build a bear hanger. If I end up getting any more I will scan them and let you know!!
